If a friend who does not yet know God asked you, “Who is your God?”, you might say that He is love, that He is rich in mercy, that He died for humanity. All of that is true. But often we unintentionally shrink Him down to fit our own understanding, as if God also grows tired, gets confused, or sometimes feels as helpless as we do.
The Bible paints a very different picture: God is not limited. He is all-knowing, ever-present, and all-powerful. Those words may sound theological, but once we understand them, they change the way we pray, the way we face our fears, and the way we live each day.

ToggleGod Is All-Knowing: He Knows Everything
“For the LORD is a God who knows, and by Him actions are weighed.”
– 1 Samuel 2:3 (Berean Standard Bible)
Because God is not limited, He is never caught by surprise. He does not need to learn anything new, and no one needs to inform Him, because He has known all things from eternity. The future we worry about, He already sees clearly. The things we have never even thought of, He already knows.
This truth both sobers us and comforts us. It sobers us, because nothing in our hearts can be hidden from God. It comforts us, because when trials come, He is not standing on the sidelines; He knew beforehand and already has a good plan. There are seasons when we do not understand what is happening, but the One who knows all things is still in control.
“For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him.”
– 2 Chronicles 16:9 (Berean Standard Bible)
Those eyes are not only there to judge. God sees you in order to strengthen you. He does not forget you, even on the days when you feel that no one notices you.
God Is Ever-Present: He Is Everywhere
“Can a man hide in secret places where I cannot see him?’ declares the LORD. ‘Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?’ declares the LORD.”
– Jeremiah 23:24 (Berean Standard Bible)
We are limited by time and space: if we are in Hanoi, we cannot be in Ho Chi Minh City at the same moment. God is not limited in that way. He is fully present everywhere at once.
King David once wondered whether there was anywhere he could hide from God:
“Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?”
– Psalm 139:7 (Berean Standard Bible)
His answer was that there is nowhere, not even the darkest place. For someone running from God, that is a warning. But for someone who feels abandoned, it is the greatest comfort: you have never truly been alone. Whether you are sitting in a hospital room, living in an unfamiliar city, or in the middle of a marriage that is falling apart, God is there to guide you.
“The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call out to Him in truth.”
– Psalm 145:18 (Berean Standard Bible)
You do not need to search for God in some faraway place, because God is not limited by distance. He is already right beside you, waiting for you to call out to Him.
God Is All-Powerful: Nothing Is Too Difficult for Him
“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!”
– Jeremiah 32:17 (Berean Standard Bible)
From the very first pages of Genesis, the Bible shows us God’s power: He spoke a word, and all things came into being. That power does not stop at creation. Nothing happens outside of His sovereign rule, and He alone has the power to forgive sin and to transform a life that seemed beyond hope.
“So My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it.”
– Isaiah 55:11 (Berean Standard Bible)
Knowing that God is not limited changes the way we pray. If God is all-powerful, then no trial is too big for Him. We can come to Him with real faith, trusting that He can do what people consider impossible: to save, to restore, and to give eternal life.
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?”
– Jeremiah 32:27 (Berean Standard Bible)
God asked Jeremiah that question while the city of Jerusalem was about to fall. Perhaps it is the same question He is asking you today.
Two Things God Cannot Do
It may sound like a contradiction: a God who is not limited, yet there are things He “cannot” do. But in fact, the things He cannot do are exactly why we can trust Him completely.
God Cannot Lie
“God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?”
– Numbers 23:19 (Berean Standard Bible)
People make promises and forget them, or make promises and lack the strength to keep them. God is different. Every one of His promises is certain, because His very nature is truth.
God Cannot Sin
“Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.”
– Leviticus 19:2 (Berean Standard Bible)
In God there is no sin and no mistake. That is why you can entrust your life to Him without fear of being betrayed. He does not change with circumstances, and He will fulfill everything He has spoken.
Living in Peace Because God Is Not Limited
We are finite people: our understanding is limited, our strength is limited, and our time is limited too. But we belong to a God who is not limited. He knows all things, so we can trust His plan. He is everywhere, so we are never alone. He is all-powerful, so no situation is a dead end.
This week, if you are worried about the future, remember that God has already seen it and He has a good plan. If you feel lonely, remember that He is right beside you. And if you are facing a trial that is beyond your strength, bring it to the One for whom nothing is too difficult.
“Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
– Jeremiah 33:3 (Berean Standard Bible)
Father, forgive me for the many times I have made You small through my fears and my limited understanding. Help me believe that You know everything I am going through, that You are with me, and that nothing is too difficult for You. I put my trust in You today. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
