How Can I Grow Spiritually?

Learn about the Christian life of faith. Discover what the Bible says about Jesus, angels, the Church, marriage, and much more.

Welcome to the family of Jesus!

You have made the most important decision of your life — to follow Jesus. As a new Christian, you can look forward to a new way of life and many new hopes. You may need to give up or replace some old habits with new activities that help your spiritual life grow in Jesus. Growth takes time, but you can begin right now, wherever you are.

First Steps for a New Christian

1

Read the Bible

The Bible will tell you everything you need to grow spiritually. Because God speaks through His Word, you will understand Him more and learn what pleases Him. As you obey His Word, your spiritual life will grow strong and you will see positive changes in your life.

2

Find a Church to Attend

The church is a great environment to help your spiritual life grow. Churches offer Bible classes and are a place to build relationships with brothers and sisters in the faith. Contact us to find a church location near where you live.

3

Begin Living for God

A sure sign of a changed heart is the desire to live for God. What does that mean? It means you want to please God and obey Him in every circumstance. You will begin to think & act according to God’s Word, reflecting the image of Jesus in your life.

4

Share Your Faith

It is hard to keep the Gospel to yourself. God wants you to share your new faith with others. You don’t have to wait until you are a Bible expert to witness to others. You can share the true story of what Jesus has done in your life. If you are not sure how to share the Gospel, read the articles in our section on Evangelism.

5

Don’t Give Up

Being a Christian is not always easy; there will be times when you feel pressure to turn back or compromise. When you become a child of God, you also become an enemy of the devil, and he will try to tempt you to disobey God. Being tempted is not a sin — even Jesus was tempted (see Luke 4:1-3) — but when you recognize temptation and give it room to take hold, that is sin. Christians will go through seasons of training and testing, but Jesus promises to be with us and to give us the strength we need to get through hard times.
