A Small Dream: A Playground for Hmong Preschool Children

Ước mơ về một sân chơi nhỏ cho trẻ mầm non người Mông

Vietnam Evangelical Covenant Church – In October 2026, our Community Development Ministry raised more than 20 million VND to work alongside the school and the local authorities to renovate a playground for preschool children at a school site serving the Hmong community in the highlands.

A Yard That Floods Every Rainy Season

For many years, this school site has often lacked water for daily use. The schoolyard is cramped, and the small patches of dirt in front of the classrooms turn into muddy, flooded ground every rainy season. A place where the children should be running and playing has become land that is hard to use.

The teachers have long held a simple wish: to have the funds to raise the ground in front of the classrooms and create a spacious, clean playground. It would also be the place where the children share their meals, join group activities, and make childhood memories at school.

Everyone Contributing a Part

After conversations and advice from members of our ministry, the teachers took the initiative to reach out and invite the local authorities to join the effort. Each side is contributing time, effort, and resources toward a shared goal: a better place for the children to learn and play. So far, the ministry has raised more than 20 million VND to support the renovation of the playground.

This approach continues the spirit our ministry has followed since 2023, when we helped raise the ground of a playground and build a fence for the Pa Phách 2 school site in Mộc Châu: encouraging the school, parents, and the local community to take part, so that the project truly belongs to the community.

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
– Mark 10:14 (Berean Standard Bible)

Why a Playground for Preschool Children Matters

In many remote highland areas, preschool sites are small and simple. Children often walk a long way to class, and the school becomes a second home where they eat, rest, and play. A safe, dry playground for preschool children is not a luxury. It is a basic space where little ones can move, explore, and grow, and where teachers can organize activities even after heavy rain.

Our Community Development Ministry believes that caring for children is part of following Jesus, who welcomed the little ones and blessed them. Small projects like this are one way the church can show God’s love in a practical way, working together with local families and leaders rather than doing things for them from the outside.

A Beautiful Childhood

Sometimes it does not take anything grand to create a beautiful childhood. Just a safe yard to play in, a clean place to sit for a meal, and adults who are willing to work together for the children. The ministry hopes that before long, the yard that used to flood will be dry and full of children’s laughter.
